2004

An immediate challenge

I joined the Colusa Indian Community’s effort to complete a cogeneration plant after more than 50 annual utility outages disrupted operations and community life.

2005

A modern Tribal microgrid

We commissioned a Tribally owned microgrid and began building the technical and organizational capacity required for true energy independence.

Since 2012

Reliability sustained through operations

The Colusa reservation microgrid has operated without a power interruption since 2012. That record reflects the daily work of maintaining equipment, developing people, and planning for contingencies.

Today

From Colusa to Indian Country

As Chief Operating Officer, I help lead Colusa Indian Energy, a Tribally owned energy developer. Our work spans utility-scale generation, microgrids, solar and battery storage, combined heat and power, and EV infrastructure.

Career foundation

From skilled trades to executive leadership.

1999–2001

Industrial beginnings

I began as a union pipe fitter at the Portland Shipyards, working on oil tankers, cruise ships, and power barges.

2001–2007

Power-plant operations

I advanced from construction and electrical work into certified cogeneration plant operations, ultimately managing a portfolio of facilities across California.

2007–Present

Tribal utility leadership

I created and continue to direct the Colusa Indian Community Tribal Utility Authority, integrating generation, solar, battery storage, backup power, and utility operations.

2023–Present

Enterprise scale

At Colusa Indian Energy, I lead the operating platform behind increasingly complex energy and infrastructure development across Indian Country and beyond.

What the work has taught me.

Build trust through performance.

Reliable service and follow-through earn the confidence a long-term partnership needs. Trust is built in the work, not just in the agreement.

Build the institution, not just the asset.

A microgrid needs capable people, clear governance, and daily operating discipline. Those foundations matter long after construction is complete.

Keep control with the community.

Energy sovereignty is about more than power supply. It gives a community more room to decide how it develops and what it leaves for the next generation.
